“American Can Company “CANCO”.  Circa: 1933 – 1935.  This American Can Company, 12 ounce container, lists Patents Pending and was designed “For Brewers Test Packs Not To Be Sold”.  This is the American Can Company’s prototype container for holding beer.  It was developed over several years beginning as early as 1928 and perfected when a suitable vinyl-like interior lining proved effective for protecting the beer packaged within.  These containers, trademarked “Keglined“, were used by company promoters to show prospective clients what the potential packaging could look like, and, if a demonstration was required, were also filled with a prospective brewers beer to demonstrate the effectiveness of the packaging.  In 1999, one poor example of this can, which once actually contained beer, was unearthed.  Prior to this find, most collectors believed none of these containers actually held beer.  Most examples never had a top lid installed, however; at least ten original salesman samples exist having both lids affixed in an empty, air-sealed form.  This Grade 1 example is one of several quality examples known to the author.  Rarity Rating: R-6/R-5.”  REPRINTED WITH PERMISSION FROM KEVIN C.
